What the Danger Class Ratings mean:
low - low fire danger, but permits may be required, depending on the season.
moderate - carry out any forest activities with caution. burn permits may be required regardless of the season.
high - fire hazard is serious. extreme caution must be used in any forest activities.
extreme - extremely high fire hazard. complete burning ban on Thetis Island.
Burning Permits are required on Thetis Island from April 1st to October 31st, regardless of hazard rating.
Permits are not required from November 1st to March 31st.

Permits can be obtained "free of charge" by application to the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department. This may be done on-line by filling out an application form, or by contacting the department.
In addition to a valid burning permit, all Machine-made burn piles require a Department Site Inspection and Venting authorization.
