Link to information about hazard ratings and fire permits

What the Danger Class Ratings mean:
low - low fire danger, but permits may be required, depending on the season.
moderate - carry out any forest activities with caution. burn permits may be required regardless of the season.
high - fire hazard is serious. extreme caution must be used in any forest activities.
extreme - extremely high fire hazard. complete burning ban on Thetis Island.

Fire Permits are required on Thetis Island from April 1st to October 31st, regardless of hazard rating. Permits are not required from November 1st to March 31st, unless the hazard rating specifically requires it.
When required, permits may be obtained by:
1. Applying in person on Wednesday nights from 6:45 to 7:30 at the Firehall and on Saturdays at the garbage and recycling depot from 10 to noon. Or,
2. Applying on-line the regular way but allowing 24 hours for the application, so plan ahead. Sorry, but we don't have "operators standing by."

What types of burning are allowed?

For a more detailed breakdown of the types of burning allowed, and when a fire permit is required, follow this link.

In addition to a valid fire permit, all Machine-made burn piles require a Department Site Inspection and Venting authorization.
