Granted charitable status in 2019, the Thetis Island Volunteer Firefighters Society, an adjunct to the Fire Department, exists to help fund the TIVFD, and provide individual contributors tax relief by virtue of its charitable status.
The stated purpose of this Society is to help fund paramedic and firefighting supplies, equipment and training. While this is the mandate of the Thetis Island Improvement District which carries out this task via property tax assessment, capital investments such as the fire hall, fire trucks and first response vehicles are costly and are straining the resources available to the Improvement District.
With a focus on helping to fund capital equipment, the Board of the Society is fundraisiing by encouraging voluntary contributions from citizens grateful for the services provided by the volunteer firefighters, and by applying for grants available to charitable organizations.
While the need to upgrade capital equipment is ongoing, the priority at present is to replace the main fire truck (Engine 1) before it is considered too old by the Fire Underwriters to continue to qualify Thetis Island for reduced fire insurance premiums.
Your support will be gratefully appreciated.
